The Best AI Marketing Tools, Grouped by the Job They Do

The best AI marketing tools grouped by the job they do: research, writing, design, video, SEO, email and automation, and how to build a stack that fits.

AI marketing tools are easy to buy and hard to use well. Most teams I train already pay for four or five, and use one. The fix isn't a better list. It's choosing tools by the job they do, then building the workflow that makes each one earn its seat.

Below I've grouped the tools by job. Prices are the entry plans reported by vendors and by Zapier's 2026 roundup. They change often, so check the vendor page before buying.

How to choose AI marketing tools

Ask three questions before adding anything:

  1. Which task does this replace or speed up? Name the task and how long it takes today.
  2. Who will use it weekly? A tool one person opens monthly is a subscription, not a system.
  3. What does a mistake cost? Drafts are cheap to fix. Sent emails and live ads aren't.

If you can't answer the first question in one sentence, don't buy the tool yet.

Research and strategy

Claude is my default for research synthesis: call transcripts, reviews, survey exports and competitor pages turned into positioning notes. Pro costs $20 a month on Anthropic's pricing page, and it includes Projects, Research and Claude Cowork.

ChatGPT does the same job well, with a cheaper Go plan at $8 a month per OpenAI. If you're choosing between them, read Claude vs ChatGPT.

Perplexity is useful for quick, cited web research when you need sources fast.

For competitive and SEO data, I use Pengu Insights, a tool I co-founded, so weigh my opinion accordingly.

Writing and editing

An assistant plus a standard beats a dedicated "AI copywriter." Put your brand voice, banned claims and best-performing examples into a Claude Project and every draft starts closer to done.

Grammarly still earns its place for final polish, with a free plan and paid plans from $12 a month billed annually, according to Zapier.

The prompts matter more than the tool. My AI prompts for marketing guide has 20 templates you can copy.

Figures from Zapier's roundup. My rule for design tools: AI for variations and resizing, a human for the concept.

SEO and AI search visibility

SEO tools are the most expensive part of a marketing stack, so buy one, not three.

  • Semrush for keyword research and competitor analysis, from $117 a month billed annually per Zapier.
  • Clearscope for content optimization, from $129 a month on the same list.
  • An AI assistant with a checklist for briefs and on-page reviews, which covers a lot of what content tools charge for.

Visibility in AI answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews is now part of the job. The same fundamentals apply: clear answers, sources and pages that actually cover the topic.

Email, CRM and automation

  • HubSpot CRM has a free plan and AI features across its paid tiers.
  • ActiveCampaign handles email automation, from $15 a month billed annually per Zapier.
  • Zapier connects apps without code, from $19.99 a month billed annually.
  • n8n does the same with more control and a free self-hosted edition. Its cloud Starter plan is €20 a month billed annually on n8n's pricing page.

Automation is where tools stop being toys. I explain what to build first in AI marketing automation and walk through examples in n8n workflows.

A starter stack for a small team

For a team of three to ten marketers, this covers most weekly work:

  1. One AI assistant for everyone: Claude or ChatGPT.
  2. Canva for design.
  3. Descript if you publish video or podcasts.
  4. One SEO platform, owned by one person.
  5. Zapier or n8n for the three automations that save the most time.

That's five tools. Add a sixth only when a specific task is still slow after a month.

Questions to ask before you buy

Run every new tool through these before anyone enters a card:

  • Can we export our data and outputs? If not, you're renting your own work.
  • Is our content used to train models? Check the business terms, especially for client material.
  • Does it connect to what we already use? A tool that needs manual copy and paste adds work.
  • Who on the team will own it? Name the person before the trial starts.
  • What will we stop doing or cancel? A new tool should replace a task or another subscription.

Mistakes that waste the budget

  • Buying before the workflow exists. A tool without a defined task goes unused.
  • One login per person for tools nobody opens. Audit usage every quarter.
  • No review step. More content isn't more results, and Google's guidance on AI content warns against scaled pages that add no value.
  • Skipping training. The same tool produces generic output for one person and great output for another. The difference is habits.

If you want your team using these tools on real campaigns instead of paying for them, that's what my AI marketing training is for.

If you want the stack chosen and wired around your actual funnel instead of assembled from listicles, that is what my AI marketing agency work does.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best AI marketing tools?

There is no single best tool. A strong starting stack is Claude or ChatGPT for thinking and writing, Canva for design, Descript for video, an SEO platform such as Semrush, and Zapier or n8n to connect them. Pick based on the jobs your team repeats most.

How much should a small team spend on AI marketing tools?

A lean stack of an AI assistant, a design tool and an automation tool can start around $50 to $60 per person per month using the entry plans listed by vendors. SEO platforms add more. Start on free plans and upgrade only the tools your team uses weekly.

Can AI marketing tools replace a marketing team?

No. They remove repetitive production work such as first drafts, resizing, transcription and reporting. Strategy, positioning, taste and the final call on what ships still need people, and teams that skip review publish generic work.

What is the most important AI tool for marketers to learn first?

A general AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, because the prompting and review habits you build there transfer to every other tool. Once those habits exist, specialized tools become much more useful.
